State denies Yebei was an ICC witness

CID detectives have taken blood samples from the body of slain ICC witness Meshack Yebei and his family members for a DNA test and forensic investigations. At the same time, Attorney General Githu Muigai has said the government was not aware of Yebei’s status as an ICC witness. In a statement yesterday, he said Yebei would have been protected had the state been informed. Muigai has asked the CID to carry out a thorough probe into the killing. Human rights groups have, however, alleged a plot to cover up the killing by releasing fake DNA results, indicating the body at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital is not Yebei’s. Head of Serious Crimes at the CID headquarters John Kariuki, who is leading the probe into Yebei’s killing, said they will carry out in-depth investigations. The family has agreed to work with the CID and is to carry out its own DNA test. “We are asking other private groups to help sponsor separate tests because there is talk of ‘fixing’ the results of t

Cowlishaw: Cowboys season ends with lousy referee explanation, controversy

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant (88) walks disconsolately off the field after the final seconds tick of the clock in Green By's 26-21 win during the Dallas Cowboys vs. the Green Bay Packers NFL football game at Lambeau Field in Green Bay on Sunday, January 11, 2015. (Louis DeLuca/The Dallas Morning News) GREEN BAY, Wis. — It looked like a catch. That was true for innocent bystanders and neutral observers, and it was painfully true for Dallas fans. But the Cowboys are the team without a leg to stand on when it comes to sympathy for overturned officials’ calls. And yet it appeared Dez Bryant had gotten one, two, maybe three legs down to put Dallas in position to knock off the Packers right here in Lambeau Field, the site of the Cowboys’ most painful playoff defeat. Then it was ripped away and, before you knew it, Green Bay was celebrating a 26-21 victory and a date with Seattle. “I did think it was a catch,” head coach Jason Garrett said. “He had three feet down and

"We have already begun investigations and police will try to get to the bottom of the matter. This however, is an isolated incident because Mombasa has been calm," said Mombasa County Criminal Investigations Officer, Henry Ondiek. The victim, a popular shopkeeper in Saba Saba - George Karidhimba Muriki of Kimathi Store - was also the secretary of the Maximum Revival Ministry. He was struck several times in the back and appears to have died on the spot. The body lay outside a classroom block at Mvita primary school for hours before police took it away.
