Whitney's Daughter: Can Power of Prayer Help Coma Patients?

For more than two months, Bobbi Kristina Brown has remained in a coma and on life support as her family, along with fans throughout the world, offer prayers for her recovery. Shortly after her collapse on Jan. 31, her family held a prayer vigil. Since then, they have repeatedly asked the public to join them in praying for the 22-year-old. One of her cousins even released a song called “Pray for BK.” While the drama surrounding Whitney Houston’s daughter has played out publicly because of her fame, a similar scenario is repeated every day in this country among ordinary people: A person suffers a tragic accident or illness, lapses into unconsciousness, and their friends and family pray fervently for their recovery. Often prayer circles are formed or entire congregations and Internet groups launch prayer efforts. The question is: Does it help? The answer from doctors and researchers is that the power of help does indeed appear to aid survival and recovery. “I’ve seen many cas

Kerry makes unannounced visit to Somalia

US secretary of state to meet top officials in country struggling to rebuild after decades of war and insurgency. John Kerry has made an unannounced visit to Somalia, the first US secretary of state to visit the Horn of Africa nation that is struggling to rebuild after two decades of war and battling an armed campaign by the group al-Shabab. Kerry will meet Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the prime minister, provincial leaders and civilian groups, US officials said. Details of the trip were based on a dispatch from a reporter who was travelling with Kerry. Somali officials were also kept in the dark, initially being told a lower ranking official was coming to the country where US troops supported a humanitarian mission in 1992 but suffered heavy losses when they were drawn into the conflict. The trip "will send a strong signal to al-Shabab that we are not turning our backs on the Somali people and will continue to engage with Somalia until we bring al-Sh

Burundi President should stop his greed for power and obey the rule of law

Burundi, a small, poor and landlocked country in the Great Lakes Region is on the verge of “boiling-over.” Reason, President Pierre Nkurunziza won’t give up his thirst for more time in power.  Having led his country out of a 12-year bloodshed in which more than 300,000 people died ten years ago, he now thinks he can bypass the constitution – which he swore to uphold when he took over the presidency – how duplicitous is that! President Pierre Nkurunziza   Photo: courtesy First, Burundi just like any other country has a constitution. As it is, the constitution says the president will go for a two - five – year term. While he has been in power for 10 years, his cronies say the first five years do not count as he was elected for that term by parliament, not popular vote! Really? I think just like one famous football manager; Jose Mourinho who doesn’t care how much possession his team gets but the final end result, the Burundian public too doesn’t appear to want to know whether
